Monday and Tuesday’s trading days may have seemed like the markets were getting back to business as usual. After all, retail stocks like Gamestop (GME) Tanger (SKT), and AMC Entertainment (AMC) all dropped – and in some cases, plummeted – at the beginning of the week.

But there was some revival yesterday that could continue as the week concludes.

Shark Tank entrepreneur and investor Mark Cuban theorized that little-fish traders like those on Reddit’s now famous (and infamous) WallStreetBets thread aren’t going to stop any time soon.

“I think now that they’ve recognized their power and now that they’ve learned some lessons, we’re going to get more of it, not less of it. It’s not going to be a set of circumstances where all these people lost money, they’re going to go home with their tail between their legs, and they’re never going to do this again.”

Case in point – though hardly a little fish – Barstool Sports founder and owner Dave Portnoy says he bought up $700,000 worth of AMC yesterday after exiting it on Tuesday. He thinks “it could have another run” and is willing and able to put his money where his mouth is.

With that said, he was very honest that he wasn’t investing based on fundamentals. Instead, he says, he’s strategically gambling, knowing full well the odds he’s working with.

Portnoy has made it very clear which side of the Reddit debate he falls onto, and not just with his publicly disclosed bets. He also told Benzinga’s Power Hour that, “People need to go to jail” over recent restrictions some brokerages imposed on anti-short-selling activity. That includes trading app Robinhood, which he says “needs to know this is the end of their company.”

While the SEC and various other legal organizations are looking into whether to do exactly that, I don’t see it as likely. Rather like the case of Congressional insider trading years back, this is probably going to be one of those “slap on the wrist” situations.

That’s my take anyway. Besides, until we know one way or the other, there are plenty of other fish to fry.

We have tons of stock-specific news flowing in this morning, including how:

Medical Properties Trust (MPW) announced Q4 normalized FFO of $0.41/share and pro forma total gross assets of about $20.4 billion. The latter includes $15.1 billion in general acute care hospitals, $2.2 billion in inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, $1.7 billion in behavioral health facilities, $0.3 billion in long-term acute care hospitals, and $0.3 billion in freestanding emergency room and urgent care properties.
Mid-America Apartment Communities (MAA) reported Q4 core FFO of $1.65 per share and 2021 guidance of $6.30-$6.60. Its same-store property revenue rose 1.8% year-over-year for the quarter, and property operating expenses ticked up by 6.9%. But same-store net operating income did fall 0.9%. For the full year, average same-store physical occupancy was 95.6% compared to 95.9% for 2019.
Power REIT (PW) bought a 37,000 square-foot, state-of-the art greenhouse cannabis cultivation facility in Riverside County, California, for $7.685 million. That’s a new area for it but a strategic one given that it’s one of the country’s largest cannabis markets. The property is leased to Canndescent.

As already broached up above, we’ve also got some Tanger action to note. You can see below that it was back on the “loved” list yesterday, as was Seritage (SRG).
